In 1984, I co-founded one of the first employee leasing companies, now known as professional employer organizations, or PEOs. That business, Modern Employers Inc. (MEI), grew to be a large and prosperous organization, which we sold to an “A+” rated insurance company in 1999. Growing MEI from just a concept to a thriving, profitable company certainly provided me with a strong sense of fulfillment. However, the most satisfying part was when MEI was small, and I was able to personally interact with clients on a daily basis.
As we grew bigger, I really missed not being able to work one-on-one with business owners. That is why I started The Employee Management Team (EMT) – to personally interact with and help small to medium size business (SMB) owners manage their Human Resource elements, insurance, tax and compliance programs (work I actually enjoy doing!) so you can do the work you enjoy and focus on growing your business.
